Each year the AFTC recognizes Fox Terrier and member owner teams for their achievements in multiple disciplines. Our breeds are eligible to compete in breed, obedience, agility, earthdog and tracking competitions. While it isn’t easy to train a Fox Terrier, it is certainly rewarding and most definitely enhances the bond between a Fox Terrier and his person! The newsletter makes space every year for owners to tell us all a little about their award winning Fox Terriers. Thanks to the AFTC for the recognition and congratulations to the winners!!
The Applause Award
For achievement in four out of five disciplines
Ch. Amaximis Himtn One Good Punch RN, OA, AXJ, SE
Smooth Fox Terrier
Owned by Cathy Parker
What a year Buster and I have had! We started showing in Agility and worked our way into the Excellent classes in no time. Buster earned his OA and AXJ within a year of starting agility. He is a blast to run and a crowd favorite. He also earned his Rally Novice title. My goal for him now is his consistent attention on me before we move up to Advance. I see it happening too! In June we trialed in Master Earthdog level and he passed both times so we are half way towards his ME title. Buster can do most of the Open and Utility obedience exercises but we are about a year away from entering the ring. However when he is ready, he will be ready! Most importantly, Buster and I are learning to work as a team and I enjoy him more than words can express.
The Cracker Jack Award
For achievement in three out of five disciplines
Halcar Keepsake UD, RE, TD, AXJP
Wire Fox Terrier
Owned by Karen Grettler
I have owned Wires since 1975 and have trained and shown these wonderful little terriers in obedience since 1989. Keeper is my first Wire that has taken me beyond obedience to open up a whole new world in tracking and agility. Keeper is a nice tracking dog; step-tracks beautifully with real good focus. We didn’t start agility until she was 6 years old. Keeper is currently working on her MJP with only one more qualifying score needed! At 9 years old, Keeper will probably be retired in 2009. I couldn’t ask for a nicer companion than Keeper.
The Versatility Award
For achievement in two out of five disciplines
Ch. Nilee’s Say It Isn’t So Dehtenn RN, CGC
Smooth Fox Terrier
Owners Jaime Barnes & Debbie Przybylski
Bringing Neo into my life has been the best and he has exceeded my expectations in both the breed ring and obedience. Neo is a dog overflowing with fun and always ready for more. We both look forward to more titles…Neo rocks!
Ch. Blu Vu’s Boy George OA, OAJ, CGC
Smooth Fox Terrier
Owned by Carolyn S. Farrington
Nigel is my first Breed Conformation Champion. He loved to show and finished quickly. Agility appealed to me with my background in Dressage riding and it definitely appealed to Nigel who took to it quickly. Not intending to compete but with lots of lessons and short daily practices, Nigel became keen quickly. We tried one NADAC trial where he did well and we were off and running! One crazy competitive year later Nigel has six agility titles; both his Novice AKC titles, Open titles, his Agility Dog title in USDAA and his CL-1 title in CPE. We are currently halfway through both AKC Excellent titles. We hope to try some Rally and Earthdog when we ever slow down and catch our breath!! I’m obviously very proud of my boy Nigel. He has taken me to new and exciting places in the sport of dogs and we have had much fun along the way. I love him with all my heart. Thank you AFTC for providing the opportunity to showcase our talented performance Foxies!!
Ch. High Mountain Duece’s Wild JE, CGC
Smooth Fox Terrier
Owners Robert & Clara Good & Carolyn Snavely
Duece is a social butterfly, loving everybody and every dog he meets, which sometimes distracts him for his job at hand. He has been known to visit judges, stewards, trainers and onlookers while in the midst of a run! Many thanks to Richard & Carrie Snavely, Duece’s breeders, for showing him to his championship. Duece earned his Junior Earthdog title on his own with no training after he decided that visiting the judges and stewards was not the way to go. He also has one leg towards his Senior Earthdog title. We are currently working in obedience, rally and training in agility which we hope to show in Fall 2008.
Ch. Lil ‘Itch Send in the Clown JE
Smooth Fox Terrier
Owners Suzanne Hoseman & Trudy J. Haines
Circus earned his Junior Earthdog Title quickly and we are now working on his Senior Title. Circus is also a Best in Specialty winner. He is retired from showing and our plans will include working on Rally titles.
Quissex Derrygally Tobias RN, JE
Smooth Fox Terrier
Owned by David & Dorie Walmsley
Dave and I knew the nature of smooth fox terriers as we bred and showed then during the 70s. We were ready for an adventure and what a ride it has been. Obedience training started when Toby was 10 weeks old and it quickly came to pass that he had regular “time outs” in puppy kindergarten as he was so boisterous! We quickly learned that things take a bit longer with Toby because he basically tried to call the shots…he definitely was not a biddable dog! Toby surprised us though as in three shows we qualified for our Rally Novice title. My goal was to earn a score in the 80s and he gave me a 93! We are now working towards our CD. Toby loves Earthdog and he put his heart into getting his Junior Earth dog title and we are now working on Senior. However our favorite time together is doing agility and Toby has finally gotten over “making up his own course” and we are now a team. In our spare time we perform with an Exhibition Team at local nursing homes and schools and Toby is a wonderful ambassador for the breed. Toby’s sense of humor keeps us well entertained and our lives revolve around him. He is quite spoiled and much loved!
Ch.Sheffield Simon Sez JE
Smooth Fox Terrier
Owners Sharon Yon, Donna Longaker & Stephanie Brockwell
Simon is from the only litter given to me by my beautiful girl Sheffield’s Perpatchual Motion. Simon earned a fan club at 4 months when he went Best in Match and then earned single points quickly. I had an accident at work and had no choice but to put him away and let him mature for a bit. Montgomery Weekend 2007 two friends (Jacqueline Wilson & Tracy Matthews) agreed to help me show him and it was great being able to see him in the ring. Following that I brought him out using my cane and handled him myself. It wasn’t very pretty seeing me in the ring while my boy would stop and wait for me to catch up to him. Moving on to Earthdog… I took him to Earthdog practice and in two weekends while we were at the NJ Beanfield, Simon earned his Junior Earthdog title! Simon went back in the breed ring under Dr. Robert Smith who gave us our first major. Then at Lucky Lackawanna he earned his second major under Carole Beattie who couldn’t say enough good about him. I’m proud to have produced an honest little dog that is well rounded.

Ch. Jelson’s Boy Genius V Briarlea NAJ

Ch. Purston’s Frenchpark Lady JE
Wire Fox Terrier
Owned by John & Mary Lynn Killeen
Nuala was bred by Michael Collings of Purston Kennel and her sire was “Smithy” (Ch Burrencroft Fireson of Purston). She was show to her Championship and Earth dog title by John and Mary Lynn Killeen of Frenchpark Fox Terriers. Nuala is one of the Eukanuba dogs and is the WFT pictured on the Eukanuba dog food bags and was on a street banner at the AKC/Eukanuba Invitational Show in Long Beach, CA for the last two years. She is also a high fashion model and can be seen in the March 20089 issue of Red Magazine, a British publication. Both of her majors were 4 point majors, one was at the June 2007 American Fox Terrier Specialty at the Great Western Terrier Association show in Long Beach, CA. Nula will continue her Earthdog career and after having successfully taken her first obedience class will most likely try a Rally title next. She will also continue her modeling career.
Spike Lee He Got Game RN, JE
Wire Fox Terrier
Owned by Teresa Randall
Spike Lee came into my rescue program at age 6 months. He quickly showed me he was much calmer than most of the wires I took in and I decided to keep him realizing he had potential to become my next competition dog. While his calmness is an asset he is also a very soft dog to train and live with. He is a natural in Earth Dog. We didn’t train much and despite his size (17.5inches) he “tunneled” his way to his Junior Earthdog title quickly and easily. We had been playing obedience for a while but weren’t ready for Novice Obedience yet when several terrier friends mentioned the Terrier Only Performance Summit in Colorado. Initially I planned to just hang with other terrier folks but then saw that Spike had the potential for Rally. Sure enough as he went on to qualify all three days earning a Rally Novice B title at the TOPS show. His RN title has motivated me to continue in obedience and also agility and to hopefully earn the Top Terrier award for wire foxes.
MACH2 Snowtaires Kobe NAP, NJP, MXF, JE
Wire Fox Terrier
Owned by Carol M. Smith
Kobe is a fun loving, squirrel chasing, rat hunting clown. Add in master of treat stealer, escape artist and can leap a high fence in a single bound. At only 5 years old he has been ranked the #1 Agility WFT the last 2 years and highest scoring AgilityWFT in the history of the sport. He is the lst terrier and only WFT to have earned a MXF title. In December 2008 he will have competed in his 3rd AKC Agility Invitational. When you see Kobe on the agility course it is obvious he loves the game while hating the rules! He is independent, can make up his own course, never goes down on the table without arguing the point and when he does obey he barks so loud that the judge’s count cannot be heard. In addition to agility Kobe put his whole heart into earning his Junior Earthdog title at the May Terriers Only Performance Summit in Colorado. Kobe does agility, earthdog, digging holes, playing with the water out of the hose and having his back scratched with gusto. Maybe we will try tracking next? Whatever Kobe does I know he will put his whole fun loving self into it.
